SENSIMED Triggerfish 24-Hour IOP Monitoring

About the SENSIMED Triggerfish®

The SENSIMED Triggerfish® is a portable system indicated for continuous intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring up to 24 hours in glaucoma patients at risk of progression. The medical device records the IOP pattern during the monitoring time.

This safe and sensitive system is non-invasive and practical. Installation and removal on the patient is simple and is executed by the healthcare professional. It is furthermore outpatient compatible.

The SENSIMED Triggerfish® is a paradigm shift in ophthalmology and a step forward in personalised medicine and could give hope to non-stabilised glaucoma patients. From a clinical perspective, SENSIMED Triggerfish® provides specialists with previously unknown clinical data in real life conditions, and thanks to the unique data provided, it enables the choice of customised therapy for patients diagnosed with glaucoma at risk of progression.

Once a treatment has been initiated, the repeated use of the device will reveal the evolution of the patient’s clinical condition and help adapt the treatment according to their needs.

How does it work?

The SENSIMED Triggerfish® is a non-invasive device that comprises a soft disposable contact lens embedded with a miniaturised telemetric sensor. It detects the circumferential changes in the area of the corneo-scleral junction. A flexible adhesive antenna worn around the eye wirelessly receives from the contact lens the continuous acquired information and is connected to the portable recorder.

Triggerfish - how it works

The patient wears the SENSIMED Triggerfish® system up to 24 hours and assumes normal activities including sleep periods.

The SENSIMED Triggerfish® Sensor is a soft disposable silicone contact lens embedding a micro-sensor that captures spontaneous circumferential changes at the corneoscleral area. (1)

The adhesive SENSIMED Triggerfish® Antenna, which is placed around the eye, receives wirelessly the information from the contact lens. (2)

The data is transmitted through a thin flexible cable from the Antenna to the portable recorder. (3)

The portable recorder, worn by the patient, stores the acquired data during the monitoring session. At the end of the recording period, the data is transferred via Bluetooth from the recorder to the software previously installed on the practitioner’s computer. (4)

The software enables specialists to manage and visualise the patient’s continuous IOP profile. The data provided by the SENSIMED Triggerfish® complements punctual tonometer measurements and offers a qualitative profiling of the patient’s IOP for up to 24 hours. The pattern reproducibility of an individual patient’s profile allows for the optimisation of the glaucoma management*.
